A colleague I share a waiting room with, but who doesn’t practice cosmetic medicine, recently made a comment that made me think. He pulled me aside and said "How do your patients manage to look so normal?" I jokingly replied “My name is all over their faces!" And it's true, I want my practice to reflect my attitude towards cosmetic medicine by staying true to the principal that anti-aging medical procedures are about exactly that - anti-aging. "Restoration not imitation" is one way to look at this. It’s about rejuvenation and maintaining natural expression, not trying to look like someone you never were. It is about looking at what makes every woman's (and man’s!) face unique and beautiful in its own and individual way and making those elements the focus of treatment. Even if it means doing less than more. Let's remember first of all that these are medical procedures and safety should always be front of mind. A common mantra I use during consultation is "you can always add more but you can’t take it out". I feel you should look at your face after each treatment and say "that's just right or maybe next time we could add a little more" and NOT feel self conscious or feel a sense of regret. Cosmetic and anti-aging medical procedures are all about increasing our feelings of self confidence and looking like the person you feel inside. Each month I will connect with you to share with you my perspective on how you can achieve a natural, refreshed, younger and brighter look and still stay true to who you are at the core. That is beautiful.
